VISITORS to a Georgian mansion will have the chance to have a look behind the scenes to see the important work carried out to look after the collections.

Ormesby Hall and Gardens opens its doors between 11am and 1pm every Wednesday when members of the conservation team do their specialist cleaning of the collections in front of visitors.

Coming up tomorrow is a special conservation event with the team opening up Mr Pennymans’ safe for a peek inside, volunteers will be demonstrating how we clean the historic books and they can also peek at the pests that try to eat the collection and the work we do to stop them.

Donna Carr, conservation assistant at the hall, said: “Visitors are always intrigued to know what lies behind the closed doors and the work we do to care for the collections. So myself and the conservation team will be opening up the safe in the study to look inside and clean the contents."

The event requires visitors to purchase house and gardens ticket. Call 01642-328904 for details.
