VIKINGS were spotted practising for battle in a village at the weekend.

The Viking raiders were joined by the 3Sixty Bicycle Stunt Team, the Zetland Pony Club and racing ferrets as part of the annual Hurworth Country Fair.

Early sunshine helped to swell numbers at the event, which is held at Hurworth Grange, a former Victorian residence in the village, near Darlington.

And the rain stayed away all day to make sure the event was a success.

Children could go for escorted donkey rides in the parkland around the Grange, and the Viking reenactment group gave visitors a chance to see their encampment and how they used to live, cook and practice for battle. There were also quad bikes, a football challenge and a welly hoying competition.

Dance troupe the Scoil Rince í Muir Irish Dancers gave a demonstration and there was archery, Punch and Judy shows, alpacas to meet, and entertainment from a ukelele band.
