MORE than £90,000 has been raised for a North-East hospice since it launched its annual golf tournament a decade ago.

The running total was boosted by the tenth annual Butterwick Golf Classic Tournament, which attracted a strong field of teams to prestigious Rockliffe Hall, near Darlington.

And, on the day the hospice banked more valuable funds, it was appropriate that the team competition was won by Barclays’ Bishop Auckland branch. Ramsdens Financial were second and Wharton Construction third.

The day began with brunch served in the clubhouse and ended with an evening meal and trophy presentation. After dinner was speaker Craig Hignett, former Middlesbrough and Blackburn Rovers star, and now Director of Football at Hartlepool United.

Event organiser, Anne Cooling, said: “The day is all about bringing our partners together to raise funds for the Butterwick, and to have a thoroughly enjoyable competition.

“The event is always really well supported, and we want to thank everyone for all their generosity. Rockliffe Hall helps us to make sure that the day goes superbly well.”
