A YOUNG farmers' club this week celebrated the opening of its very own building.

Butsfield YFC officially opened the stone building, Eldon Lodge, which will be used for meetings and other activities, with Dean Richards, of Newcastle Falcons, unveiling the plaque.

Butsfield chairman Richard Darlington, Adam Barrass, a past member, and Michael Moralee, Butsfield treasurer have worked tirelessly with funders, the local community and club members to complete the build.

The project has cost £170,000, with £140,000 provided by fundraisers and £30,000 from club funds. Ground works and other works have been done by members themselves to the value of more than £30,000.

Elsdon Lodge replaces a hut previously used by the club, and with solar panels, quality fittings and local stone, fits into the village setting perfectly.

The old sign set on a stone has been retained to greet visitors at the steps, a nod to its past and a welcome touch.

A spokeperson for County Durham YFC said: "This is a wonderful achievement for a YFC club possibly the only club in the country to raise to such a challenge – proving anything is possible for a YFC club."
