TALENTED musicians who grew up and performed in the Teesdale village of Romaldkirk several decades ago return this bank holiday weekend for the village's music festival weekend.

Brothers Charles and Andrew Knights spent their childhood in Romaldkirk and have both gone on to distinguished careers in music.

They and other musicians now living across the UK and abroad who have come together to part in the festival were previously members of the Bowes Ensemble which performed at the Bowes Museum in the 1970s.

It is the first time they have all reunited since moving on to further their careers.

Today older brother Andrew is at the Manor House, in Barnard Castle, to hold a music and song workshop for people with Alzheimer’s.

Tomorrow, Charles and his sister-in-law Jenny Knights host a workshop for violin and cello at 2.30pm at St Romald's Church, in Romaldkirk, suitable for those of a minimum Grade 4.

Participants will learn four pieces including baroque, jazz and bluegrass. The session will end with a short performance; observers are welcome. Participant tickets are £10. To book call 01833 650096.

At 7.30pm tomorrow Susannah Knights performs the oud, a Turkish musical instrument, at Curlews, 11 Market Place, Barnard Castle. This is a supper concert and a first for the bookshop and cafe. Tickets cost £12. To book call Emma on 01833 630455.

All the musicians unite as the Knights Family Ensemble and Friends to perform on Sunday at St Romald’s at 7.30pm. The concert includes favourite works by Bach, Vivaldi, Boyce, Telemann, Albinoni and Avison.

The ensemble comprises Charles and Jenny Knights, Caroline Davis on violin; James Sleigh, viola; cellist Sarah Hedley-Miller, who has been performing in the London Proms; Andrew Knights and Evie Brenkley on oboes; with Martin Hall, originally from Eggleton, who now teaches at the Menuhin Foundation in Bermuda, conducting from the harpsicord.
