THIS year's 121st Kilnsey Show and Sports day will have a new president.

Dr Peter Whitehead was elected to the post at the annual meeting of Upper Wharfedale Agricultural Society which organises what is one of the biggest and best known one day shows in the country.

Dr Whitehead, who lives in Skipton, was the show's doctor for almost 25 years before retiring three years ago.

He was a partner at Fisher Medical Centre in Skipton for 30 years, where many farmers were patients, and continues to do locum work in both Catterick Garrison and Northallerton.

Dr Whitehead takes over from Dorothy Dean who has completed her two year term of office and described her

as "an outstanding president and figurehead."

The show on Tuesday, August 28, will also see Robert Lambert serve his last year as chairman, a position he has held since 2002. He has been on the show committee since 1969 and has now been installed as president elect.

The new show doctor is Dr Natalie Curtis who practises in Grassington and Ilkley.
