AN 86-year-old driver has suffered serious injuries after being in a collision at a junction on Saturday.

The crash involved a white Mini Cooper, which was travelling on Wetherby Road towards Harrogate and a small, white VW Up, which was using the junction with Railway Road by the Sainsbury’s traffic lights.

The collision, which happened at about 3.35pm on Saturday (July 28), not far from the Great Yorkshire Showground, resulted in the 61-year-old female driver of the Mini, from Thorp Arch, suffering slight injuries which did not require hospital treatment.

The driver of the VW, an 86-year-old woman from Bardsey, was taken to Leeds General infirmary where she was admitted with serious leg, arm and internal injuries. Her condition is described as "serious but stable".

The scene was clear by 6.35pm.

Officers are investigating the collision and would like to hear from anyone who witnessed it or recall seeing either vehicle prior to the incident.
