Folk music

THERE will be the chance to see acoustic folk artists playing the Watermill Sessions in Great Ayton on Friday, August 10, from 7pm until 10pm at All Saints’ Church on Low Green. They include artists including MG Boulter, who played with Mumford and Sons, The Lucky Strikes, Jess Morgan and Great Ayton’s own Elaine Palmer. The evening begins 7pm.

Trailer crash

A TRAILER carrying a Transit-style van flipped right over following a crash on the A170 between Wrelton and Sinnington on Thursday.Police were called to the scene at 10.30am and closed the lane for two hours while the vehicle was moved. No-one as hurt.

Heritage day

KIRKBYMOORSIDE History Group is hosting a heritage event today to celebrate the town’s rich past. The day will include various historical talks, walks, exhibitions and displays and will take place on from 9.30am 4.30pm, in the Methodist Chapel Rooms, Piercy End.

Teacher visit

FOUR European teachers - from Romania, Italy, Tiurkey and Slovenia - have been on an exchange visit to Kirkbymooriside Primary School as part of a British Council-funded Erasmus+ project, which the school is involved.

Shoes gift

PUPILS at West Heslerton Primary School are helping to change the lives of children in Africa. The children have been donating school shoes to the charity Sal’s Shoes. On the last day of term, pupils were asked if they would like to take off their school shoes - which they grow out of during the summer holiday - and place them on their desk and leave school barefoot.

Stepping down

A COOK who has served thousands of meals to primary school children is retiring. Val Sprakes started work at St Hilda’s Primary School at Ampleforth in 1985 after moving to the village with her young family. “She will be hugely missed” said head James Pynn.
