A DRUG driver gave police a false name when he was stopped for speeding.

Mozafar Shan tested positive for cocaine and cannabis after he was pulled over for speeding in his Skoda on Middlesbrough’s Marton Road.

He tried to fool officers by giving a false name, but later revealed his true identity.

However after being charged he failed to appear at court and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

The 29-year-old, a father-of-four, admitted drug driving on May 2 this year, obstructing a police officer and having no insurance.

Prosecutor Paul Newcombe told Teesside Crown Court he had also breached a suspended sentence imposed last August for possession of cannabis with intent to supply.

Shan, of the Charltons, near Saltburn, told Judge Sean Morris he had “learnt his lesson” after spending a month in jail.

The judge gave him a 12 month community order and 150 hours unpaid work, warning him he would be locked up if he failed to comply.
