TV presenter and naturalist Chris Packham is heading to North Yorkshire this month as part of his national "BioBlitz", the first independent wildlife audit of its kind in the UK.

His goal is to investigate the extent to which the nation’s wildlife species are under threat and to meet and raise money for the local projects working on the conservation of wildlife habitats.

And he will be at Nosterfield Local Nature Reserve, the only one of its kind in the Hambleton district, on July 19.

The Lower Ure Conservation Trust, established in 1997, is a volunteer-led organisation responsible for the upkeep of Nosterfield, which has recently expanded to encompass a further 100 acres of land.

The trust has worked alongside volunteers and conservation professionals to turn a quarry into one of Yorkshire’s premiere wetland nature reserves.

It will be hosting a briefing on July 14 at Nosterfield Quarry Visitor Centre for anyone who wishes to get involved.
