CHILDREN’s television presenters will film an episode of Celebrity Antiques Road Trip in Darlington tomorrow.

Sam Nixon and Mark Rhodes began their career in the limelight after appearing on Pop Idol in 2003 and have hosted various BBC programmes since, including TMI and Top of the Pops Reloaded.

They will battle it out at the Thomas Watson action house on Tuesday morning to see who can make the most money for charity buying and selling antiques.

Sam and Mark’s Darlington visit is the final stop on a three-day route that has taken them from Bridlington to the town, via places including York, Malton and Pickering.

The celebrities were paired up with antique experts Charles Hanson and Natasha Raskin Sharp to travel across the UK in classic vintage cars for the BBC2 show, which is now in its eighth series.

At Thomas Watson’s Antiques and Collectables Sale, they will attempt to sell items purchased along their route from their budget of £400 each.

David Elstob, Director at Thomas Watsons, said: “We are delighted to welcome back the Antiques Road Trip film crew and it is particularly exciting to have a visit from the celebrity teams.

“It is always intriguing to see what objects are picked up on these journeys, which could be anything from rare antiques to fun collectable items.

“We look forward to helping the teams achieve the best possible prices and raise as much money for charity as possible.”

Members of the public interested in watching the filming are welcome to attend the sale, which begins at 10am.

The programme is expected to air at the end of the year.
