A DECORATIVE project to make Remembrance Day celebrations more memorable has been launched.

Ripon Community Poppy Project has taken inspiration from the display of ceramic poppies at the Tower of London.

Launched by councillor Stuart Martin, the aim is to create a display of knitted or crocheted poppies from the Spa Gardens to the Cathedral by lining metal railings of the route.

In the Spa Gardens, poppies will cover the main gates, band stand and appear on boards.

The group is seeking permission to put poppies in front of the Spa Baths and Ripon Town Hall, as well as creating a show outside Ripon Cathedral.

Local businesses can create displays in their shop windows, as well as sponsoring large poppies from the Royal British Legion that will be displayed on lamp posts.

The project is appealing for people who can knit or crochet poppies, and those who can sew poppies onto the netting.
