HIGHLAND cattle are back in the fold at Stewart Park in Middlesbrogh.

Staff have been trying to reinstate the Endeavour herd since the last remaining animal died three years ago.

Three pedigree Highland cattle heifers - one red and two yellow - have been bought from Danby breeder, Graham Thompson. A bonus is that one of the yellow heifers has given birth to a female calf.

Jim Moody, park manager, said: "There are not many parks left in our area with the range of animals that we have, and we're particularly pleased that the red heifer is actually from the Endeavour bloodline that originated here in Stewart Park."

The cattle are in a field next to the depot, but will soon move permanently to the field near the visitor car park.
