THE family of a boy who suffered multiple injuries in a farm vehicle accident are raising money to thank the air ambulance medics that helped save his life.

Debbie Morley had taken son Carter Lee and younger sister Hallie to Waterloo Farm, Melsonby, near Richmond, where she works as a cleaner on the first day of the summer school holiday earlier this year.

But while she was working Carter, 11, lost control of the small all terrain Gator and crashed into a fence, causing the vehicle to flip and land on top of him.

“It’s just every parent’s worst nightmare,” said Ms Morely. “I heard screaming and when I got outside I could just see my boy’s legs sticking out. I felt so sick I could not stop shaking, I really thought he had gone.”

Carter’s accident featured on Monday night's episode of Helicopter ER, the UKTV series on reality channel Really, that follows the life-saving work of Yorkshire Air Ambulance. The crash is captured on the farm’s CCTV footage.

Land and air ambulance medics were quickly on scene to stablise the badly injured boy who was flown by Yorkshire Air Ambulance to James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough. He suffered fractures to his pelvis and hip, deep lacerations to his left thigh and multiple glass cuts.

The Richmond School pupil spent five days in hospital and has gone through a long recovery process from walking frame and wheelchair, to crutches and finally to walking again.

The family has now launched a Just Giving page to raise money for the rapid response emergency service that needs to £12,000 a day to keep its two helicopters flying. To donate go to www.justgiving.com/Debbie-Morley4.
