A SALAD producer won the best fresh produce title at the Taste Awards for an edible wild plant which has been consumed around the world for thousands of years.
Herbs Unlimited, which employs 45 staff at its 92-acre farm in Sandhutton, near Thirsk, won with its oxalis leaves, which are part of the wood sorrel family.
Judges described them as "visually spectacular with a subtle and very different flavour", adding: "It would grace the tables of any top restaurant in the land".
The award follows a £200,000 investment in machinery, to increase the size of its pack house by 2018 as the firm prepares for further growth.
