A NEGLECTED village pinfold has been transformed into a community garden thanks to the efforts of a 12-year-old girl.

Grace Morris, from Hunton, near Catterick Garrison, used to help weed the small patch of land with her mother as a child, but noticed it had become overgrown and was inspired to improve it.

She said: “It seemed to have become very neglected so I thought we could return it to its former glory.”

The Wensleydale School student attended a parish council meeting and gave members a presentation on her ambitious plan to revamp the pinfold - historically used as a community pen for animals.

The council donated £100 towards her project which included a new gravel bed, planting a range of bee-friendly flowers and the bench getting a fresh coat of paint, turning it into a pleasant place for quiet contemplation.
