THE winner at Leyburn's show and sale for Junior Store Cattle Competitors on April 1 was Finlay Metcalfe, from Masham, with a Limousin heifer.
The heifer, which was bought as a rearing calf during the autumn sales, made £1,160 when sold to Messrs Thompson, of Pickering.
The judge, Keith Metcalf, of Piercebridge, then awarded the reserve slot to Grace and Lottie Whyte, of Bainbridge. Their Limousin steer made £1,190.
Sammy Atkinson, of Great Smeaton, received the prize for the animal achieving the best gross margin having bought it as a store for £860 on November 27 and selling it for £1,210.
In the regular store cattle show, which was also judged by Keith
Metcalf, the Metcalfe family, of Masham, achieved the double when father, Chris, joined son, Finlay, by winning this section with a Charolais heifer, which then sold for £1,200 to Liam Rodney, of Rodney Bros, Masham.
