THE 2012 Olympic Games may be a distant memory, but its spirit is being kept alive through the Billingham Community Challenge.

Businesses and local residents were able to have fun while competing against each other on Saturday through playing games and clambering over giant inflatables.

Organiser, Pat Chambers, said 16 teams had signed up to take part in the annual event at SRC (Stockton Riverside College) Bede Sixth Form in Billingham.

Supporters were entertained outside the main arena by playing their own games, taking part in sports as well as scaling a climbing wall.

Launched in 2013, Ms Chambers said the event was created to keep the Olympic legacy alive in the area.

“The aim is to bring the community together, helping introduce young people and their families to the wealth of activities here on our doorstep throughout the year, not just in the summer,” she said.
