GARGRAVE breeder Karen Shuttleworth was supreme champion at the Beltex Society’s 13th annual show and sale of pedigree rams and females at Skipton on Saturday.

Show debutantes Anne and Peter Moss of Rokeby, Barnard Castle, were reserve supreme with their female champion which made the day’s top price of 2,300gns.

Holmbeck Sweet Heart is a yearling ewe by Whitehill Playboy and out of their homebred Holmbeck Nefertiti.

She was bought by AJ Wood and Sons, of Preston.

Mrs Shuttleworths supreme champion – the first-prize shearling ram and male champion – sold for the second top price of 2,200gns to judge Simon Blandford.

Heber Park Sexpot is by Woodies Ring A Ding, acquired by Mrs Shuttleworth from Aberdeenshire breeder Stuart Wood, and out of the 1,300gns Brickrow Luv.

Mrs Shuttleworth also did well with two other entries by Woodies Ring A Ding.

Heading the ram lamb section at 1,300gns was Heber Park Tornado who sold to J Bailey, of Hunton, Bedale. Heber Park Spunkey sold for 900gns to AR Lee, of Alnwick, and Heber Park Silvester made 800gns when sold to JA Drake, of Carleton, Skipton.

The reserve male champion was a shearling ram from Anne Story, Longtown. Borderesk Shambles sold for 1,600gns to Thomas Wood, of Birstwith, Harrogate.

Reserve female champion was the second-prize shearling ewe from the Rathbone flock of Michael Davis, Eldroth.

Rathbone Saphire, supreme champion at this year’s Beltex Progeny Show and third in class at the Great Yorkshire, sold to Andrew Wood for 1,550gns.

He also sold Rathbone Stuart, a yearling ram, for 9,900gns to DJ Wilson, Harome, and Rathbone Theo, a ram lamb, for 800gns to MJ White, York.

Neil Noble, of Guisborough, saw his first-prize aged ram, Whatmore Rain Man, a 2011- born son of Black Mountain Mincemeat, sell for the 1,100gns to Robert Towers, Lancaster.

He also presented the first and second-prize ewe lambs and second-prize ram lamb by Whatmore Rain Man. Both sold for 520gns and 380gns respectively to Jimmy Wood, managing director of Bowland Foods.

Skipton breeder Chris Windle saw three shearling rams from his Cavendish flock sell at 1,050gns to Silsden’s Simon Bennett, 1,000gns to J Fawcett & Son, Marske, Redcar, and 850gns to R&A Smith, of the Ribble Valley.

Stuart Currie, of Rathmell, also sold shearling rams at 900gns and 850gns, while the Skelton Whin flock of Thomas and Judith Hunter, Hunmanby, Filey, sold two shearling rams at 900gns each.
