TRAINSPOTTERS and rail fans had their cameras at the ready for when the Flying Scotsman came to York in 1974.
As our video below from the BBC's Yorkshire archive shows, there was plenty of excitement as the famous steam locomotive pulled into York and took coach loads of day trippers to Scarborough.
Valerie Singleton was there for BBC's Blue Peter to record the event.
From the platform, watching the Flying Scotsman leave York station, she poetically said: "Like a ghost from another age, the Scotsman steamed out of York."
The video was part of a Blue Peter Special Assignment episode that was first broadcast on the BBC on April 28, 1974.
