The apartment has a wealth of original features including decorative ceilings, shuttered windows and fine staircase in the private entrance hall.

Brough Hall

Brough Hall is an impressive Grade 1* Listed country mansion, with many historical references, believed to date in part from the 15th Century, with additions and alterations in the 17th and 18th Centuries by well known architects William Wakefield and Thomas Atkinson. The property was the family house of the de Burgh family in the 15th Century, inherited in 1575 by Roger de Burghs daughter, Elizabeth, wife of Ralph Lawson, a prosperous Newcastle upon Tyne merchant. The property remained in the Lawson family ownership until 1979, when it was restored and divided into ten individual apartments. Brough Park is accessed via a pillared stone gateway, with the drive continuing through the parkland over Foss Bridge and providing access to the West Wing where Shelley House is located.

Entrance Hall

The apartment is accessed from the rear of the building via a private entrance door into a most impressive hall with flagged flooring, and an excellent c1730 oak staircase with turned balisters of gadroon-on-vase design; this leads to a galleried landing with plenty of natural light from the arched window overlooking the gardens. There is a superb first floor ceiling with modillion cornice, corner rosettes and richly decorated oval panel. From here a panelled glazed door leads to the inner hall.

Inner Hall

This is a large hall which would allow space for a study area if desired. There are egg and dart architraves around the doors, within the door panelling and to the ceiling. A shuttered, sash window overlooks the rear parkland. From here there is access to two bedrooms, the house bathroom/WC and the living room.

Living Room

A large dual aspect through room with views over both the parkland towards Foss Bridge and to the rear over the parkland gardens. With c16 ribbed ceilings with small pendants and armorial motifs. There is a priest hole which makes a good large cupboard and two smaller cupboards. Bespoke book cases with cupboards below and TV display area. From here a door with deep wooden panelled reveals leading to the kitchen.

Breakfast Kitchen

With two shelves arched niches, a good range of wall and floor cupboards with wooden frontage incorporating and inset one and a half sink unit and a breakfast bar. A shuttered, sash window overlooks the parkland to the front. There is painted wooden flooring to the kitchen and the wall mounted gas central heating boiler is to be found here.

Master Bedroom

A large double bedroom with arched window overlooking the front parkland. There are bespoke book cases fitted to one wall with storage cupboards below. From here a door leads to an en-suite shower room.

En-suite shower/steam room

Fitted shower/steam cubicle with travertine tiling and seating and glass sliding screens. A fitted cupboard with a counter top basin with a tall basin mixer tap and low level WC.
