Gareth Lightfoot grew up in Whitley Bay and has been a journalist for 20 years, as a reporter at the Barnsley Chronicle and 15 years as court reporter for The Gazette and Teesside Live. He worked as a senior lecturer in digital journalism at Teesside University before joining the Echo as a Local Democracy Reporter in 2021.

Durham County Council is to hold its annual meeting this morning. The meeting is being held in the council chamber at County Hall at 10am, and will be live-streamed. Also on the agenda will be the election of a chair and vice chair for the next year, an annual review of the constitution, appointments to committees and other council bodies.
