King of Pop – The Legend Continues, Grand Opera House, York, on Saturday, 7.30pm

THERE are several tribute shows to Michael Jackson currently being performed around the world, but only one will have you believing for just a moment … The Legend Continues. Starring Navi, who is officially recognised as the world’s No 1 MJ impersonator.

He is also the only tribute ever to be chosen by Michael Jackson himself. Michael selected Navi to perform at two of his birthday parties and actually gave him a standing ovation.

Michael also invited Navi to spend a day at his home, Neverland. The pair remained close and Navi was often hired to act as Michael’s decoy due to his uncanny resemblance to the star.

Navi has since performed in 57 different countries and re-creates all the classics from early Jackson 5 songs to mega-hits such as Thriller and Smooth Criminal. Tickets on 0844-871-3024.

Ribbon Road, contemporary folk trio, The Waiting Room, Eaglescliffe, on Sunday, 8pm

FOR the last 20 years, Ribbon Road’s beautifully-crafted songs have drawn on a long folk tradition to address contemporary issues.

Singer-songwriter Brenda Heslop is accompanied by her producer and husband Geoff, who, since the early 1970s, has produced more than 100 albums, working with the likes of Bert Jansch, Kathryn Tickell, Rab Noakes and Dick Gaughan.

Daughter Jill, on additional vocals and keyboards, makes the trio a true family affair. Folk songwriters have always written songs about the people and things around them – their stories, their feelings, their experiences – and Brenda, a working shepherd looking after hundreds of sheep on the hills of Northumberland, is proud to carry on this tradition. Tickets £6 on 01642-780465.
