IF YOU haven’t a greenhouse or enough room to house growbags with long cordons of tomatoes, just go for a few varieties which are suitable for a large container on the patio.
To keep costs down, buy a growbag and empty the contents into your pot. Choose the biggest pot you can find as this will hold more compost, retain moisture for longer and allow long tomato roots to grow.
Plant the plants in a sheltered spot on a sunny patio once all danger of frost has passed, water them in well and regularly.
Tomatoes also need regular feeding with tomato feed once the fruits have formed, following the manufacturer’s instructions.
Once the fruits are fully formed, cut the leaves off so that they can ripen properly.
