H G WELL'S classic time-travelling tale is brought up-to-date with an acclaimed piece of solo theatre that will be performed at Richmond’s Georgian Theatre Royal on Friday, April 6.

The Time Machine, being toured by Dyad Productions, is a captivating and clever adaptation of the Victorian novella, written to be close to the original yet accessible to a modern audience.

Well’s original concerns for the decline and degeneration of society in 1895 are still relevant and brought to the forefront of the production. The play combines sci-fi escapism with a strong warning suggesting the future partly lies in our hands.

Stephen Cunningham plays the time-traveller – less classical hero, more of an "aspergian supergenius".

The play contains subtle allusions to Dr Who, a theme echoed in the Tardis-like sounds of the Time Machine's operation.

Dyad Productions' recent touring successes in Richmond include plays about Jane Eyre, Virginia Woolf, Elizabeth 1, Marilyn Monroe and Jane Austen.

Tickets cost from £8 to £21 from the box office on 01748 825252 or online at georgiantheatreroyal.co.uk.
