COMEDY, cutting edge drama, music and a spot of mind-reading feature in the Georgian Theatre Royal’s autumn line-up.

TV stand-up comedian Phill Jupitus starts the season on September 22 followed by fellow I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue veteran Jeremy Hardy on October 12.

Former Spandau Ballet bass player and EastEnders actor Martin Kemp talks about his career on November 4 including his recent stint on the judging panel of Gary Barlow’s talent show Let it Shine.

Musical legend Hazel O’Connor returns to the Georgian on October 27 accompanied by her musical partner of 15 years, renowned Irish harp player Cormac de Barra. They will perform new songs highlighting O’Connor’s Celtic soul/folk roots as well as classics such as Will You and Eighth Day.

Kevin Simm, one of the lead vocalists in Liberty X and winner of last year’s The Voice UK will sing tracks from his latest album, Recover, along with other hit material on October 21.

Other musical events include Encore – an evening of Gallic warmth and passion – on September 23; Red Priest, the world-famous baroque quartet, with Viva Baroque on October 5; and Buddy Holly and the Cricketers on October 20, with actor-musicians whose combined West End musical credits include Buddy, Lennon, Forbidden Planet and Jailhouse Rock.

A touring production of Oscar Wilde’s satire Lady Windermere’s Fan promises a high-speed Commedia Dell’Arte adaptation of this classic play on October 14.

Award-winning Mikron Theatre Company presents an entertaining hike through the history of the Youth Hostelling Association on September 29 with Best Foot Forward; Everwitch Theatre brings to life accounts from local Second World War veterans in the powerfully evocative drama Bomb Happy on October 13.

Dramatic humour is unleashed in a gloriously silly and subversive murder mystery, The Game’s a Foot Try the Fish, on October 19 with Tom Taylor as rakish aristocrat Charlie Montague; Living Spit presents an outrageous two-man version of The Six Wives of Henry VIII on October 28.

North Country Theatre returns on September 27 and 28 with a double bill, Nightmares in Norfolk, exploring the supernatural.

Local folk band Fourum performs Scottish and Irish songs complete with their own ballads recounting legends and characters of the Dales on October 7.

For children, Goblin Theatre brings the musical adventure Peter and the Wolf on October 8 and, following the success of TV show, Howard Read as Big Howard and his six-year-old animated friend Little Howard present Little Howard’s Big Show for Kids on October 22.

A first for the Georgian is an evening of mind-reading with Luke Jermay on November 2. His show, Sixth Sense, has achieved critical acclaim with five-star reviews from Edinburgh to London’s West End.

Bestselling author Val McDermid explores the dark world of crime on September 24. Dubbed the Queen of Crime, she is perhaps best-known for her Wire in the Blood series, which was adapted for television starring Robson Green, and her most recent novel, Out of Bounds, was a number one bestseller.

Local groups appearing on stage at the Georgian include Richmond Jam on September 10, amateur drama group RADS with The Clink, a bawdy Elizabethan romp, from November 9-11, and Richmond Operatic Society with Scrooge!, a musical adaptation of Charles Dicken’s classic Christmas tale, from November 15-18.

The season ends with The Wizard of Oz by the professional production team that created last year’s record-breaking Snow White. The pantomime is written and directed especially for Richmond and promises a unique interpretation of Dorothy’s journey down the yellow brick road.
