ARTISTS are invited to enter into a competition which could see their work displayed in venues across the North of England.

Entries are open for New Light 2017, a high profile prize exhibition with awards totalling more than £15,000.

Northern artists at any stage of their career are encouraged to submit wall-hung work across media including prints, drawings and paintings.

Laura Gascoigne, art reviewer and 2015 judge, said: “I hope this exposure will make them more visible in the future.”

Shortlisted artists will feature in the New Light Prize Exhibition which will tour three of the region’s leading venues: the Bowes Museum, in Barnard Castle, Huddersfield Arts Gallery and the Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery, in Carlisle.

For the first time artists will be given the opportunity to exhibit in London with a week-long exhibition at the Bankside Gallery.

Awards include the £10,000 Valeria Sykes Prize, a Patron’s Choice Award of £2,500 and a Printmakers’ Prize. Entrants must be 18 and over and be based, studied or have been born in the North of England. Work should be submitted online before 5pm on Monday, July 31, at www.newlight-art.org.uk
