A MUSICAL tribute takes place at The Forum in Northallerton on Sunday afternoon to honour a popular local councillor who devoted himself to public service and good causes.

Reasons To Be Cheerful will celebrate the life of Tony Hall, who died in March at the age of 66, with music by local groups and friends.

Cllr Hall served four spells as Mayor of Northallerton and represented the town on Hambleton District Council and North Yorkshire County Council.

A much-loved husband, father and grandfather, he had been due to take over the leadership of the district council in May.

He was working for the community to the end, attending a public meeting over the future of a local hospital just hours before he died.

The concert is named after a daily blog Cllr Hall composed to celebrate the town of which he was so proud. The Forum Band, with leader Alan Owens, will join Northallerton Musical Theatre, Northallerton Amateur Variety Company and Crash Bang Wallop in the celebration, raising funds for the Friarage Hospital MRI Scanner Appeal.

Trust chairman Anne Wall said: “Tony was passionate about championing Northallerton and all the good things the town has to offer. He was intensely proud of the town and the organisations within it, including The Forum.

“He loved music and this is our way of saying thank-you to him and remembering everything he did for Northallerton.”

The show starts at 2.30pm. Tickets are £10 for adults and £5 children. To book, call 01609 776230 or visit www.forumnorthallerton.org.uk.
