THE Original Print Show, featuring exceptional prints by living artists from all over the world, opens at the Zillah Bell Gallery in Thirsk tomorrow.

As in previous years, the works for this annual event come from the Royal Academy Summer Show having been picked by the renowned printmaker Norman Ackroyd. This exhibition runs until October 22.

It includes every genre of printmaking, from etchings, engravings, lithographs and screen prints to digital prints, guaranteeing a colourful and wide range of work from leading to lesser known printmakers.

The Original Print Show is very much a "printmaker’s choice" representing Ackroyd’s favourite pieces from this year’s Summer Show, with some of the most celebrated names from the art world agreeing to provide works, including Royal Academicians Bill Jacklin and Dame Elizabeth Blackadder.

Other exhibitors include Emma Stibbon, Barbara Rae, Tom Phillips, showing pages from Humument, a project that has occupied him since 1966, and Cathie Pilkington.

Yorkshire-born Ackroyd, a senior Royal Academician, said: “I have selected 60 or 70 of what I feel are exceptional prints from the Royal Academy Summer Show. I thoroughly enjoy bringing the diversity and energy of contemporary printmaking up to my home county, and particularly to the Zillah Bell Gallery where I have been exhibiting for over 20 years.”

Gallery owner John Bell said: “We are delighted that once again Norman Ackroyd is curating this exciting show which gathers together work by the best of printmakers practising today. This is an exhibition which any gallery in the UK would be proud to host.”
