A NORTH Yorkshire couple of experienced artists have opened a gallery in Topcliffe.

Liz and David Marsh first met at an art show in 2004 and then kept on bumping into each other at similar events.

Sharing much in common, including a dream of making a living from art, they took work to craft fairs and were so eEncouraged by sales they decided to open a small gallery at Addingham Moorside, near Ilkley.

It ran for almost eight years until a summer of almost continuous rain three years ago forced them to close it owing to lack of visitors.

For three years, they hired village halls in Yorkshire and mounted exhibitions under the name of their former gallery.

The couple married in November 2013 and last October moved into The Old Post Office in Front Street, Topcliffe, where their new gallery opened on December 6.

The couple have different, but complimentary styles. David Marsh mainly uses watercolour, often adding fine detail in pen and ink. Liz Marsh adopts a more contemporary style with bold colours and variety of media. Between them they paint landscapes, animals, birds, flowers, foliage and mystical subjects.

The gallery has three rooms showing original paintings and prints as well as a large range of art cards. They also sell ceramics, jewellery and gift items by other artists, mostly from Yorkshire. Opening times are Wednesday to Saturday, 10am-5.30pm, and Sunday, noon-5.30pm.
