DYLAN Thomas’s classic play Under Milk Wood, originally written for radio, is being brought to life on the Saltburn stage by director Sue Pierce, whose childhood in mid-Wales has influenced her passion for all things Welsh.

She and her sister, Julie Hall, who has three roles in the play, were brought up in a Welsh tradition of poetry, storytelling and music within a family of seven children.

The sisters have long been involved in drama and are Dylan Thomas enthusiasts. Sue made the brave decision to stage an abridged version of the play for Saltburn Festival and won Best Production and Best Director including other awards.

The full version is being repeated this week by Saltburn '53 Drama Group following requests for an encore, with a large cast of young and old who have been busily perfecting Welsh accents.

Performances continue tonight at tomorrow at Saltburn Community Theatre at 7.30pm. Doors and bar open at 6.45pm. Tickets cost £7, £5 for concessions, from The Book Corner, Station Square, Saltburn, the box office (today 2-4pm) and at saltburn arts.co.uk.
