STOCKTON Arc and Tees Music Alliance have teamed up to present Stockton’s first multi-venue folk festival next month – with a plea to audiences to listen and not talk during acts.

The Sound of Silence Volume 1 will take place on Saturday, September 12, featuring contemporary and traditional folk acts.

Venues include three spaces at the Arc. the Georgian Theatre stage and the Green Room and The Wasp's Nest real ale bar.

Mercury-nominated John Bramwell (I Am Kloot) headlines at The Point in the Arc with Rachel Newton, The Horse Loom, daughter-parent trio Ribbon Road plus special guests to open the festival.

Eliza Carthy is the headline act at the Georgian Theatre, singing from her extensive catalogue of songs. Awards under her belt include BBC Radio Two's Folk Award for Best Singer and Best Album. She will be joined by Saul Rose.

Also at the Georgian is Sunderland-based The Lake Poets, aka multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter Martin Longstaff, as well as The Futureheads’ Barry Hyde who will perform a special selection of solo work. The Secret of the Whipt and This Little Bird share the bill.

The studio space at the Arc will see North-East folk singer Kathryn Williams and RM Hubbert, a guitarist and singer based in Glasgow.

He has released music under a variety of guises since 1993 and collaborated with a wide range of artists to develop an eclectic catalogue of recordings.

His third album, Breaks & Bone, was shortlisted for the 2014 Scottish Album of the Year Award.

Folk-acoustic three piece Bridie Jackson and The Arbour join the line-up. Kingsley Chapman’s Ben Hopkinson will open the show with solo material.

The line-up at the Green Room consists of Holy Moly and The Crackers, Nev Clay, Skylark Song, Dressed Like Wolves and JP Riggall (Broken Broadcast).

There will be an informal programme of live music at the Arc cafe space with Rum Baba, Sara Dennis, Jack Francis and Charlie Thomas confirmed as well as sessions in Stockton’s newest real ale bar, The Wasp's Nest.

Based on a programme pioneered by Ben Muriel, of Tees Music Alliance, the festival is aimed at listening to music with audience chatter and noise kept to a minimum. Tickets are £15 in advance and £17.50 on the day.
