SINCE the rebuilding of the James Conacher organ in St Peter's, Osmotherley, there has been an annual organ concert given by international British musicians.

This year’s concert takes place tomorrow with a performance by Robert Sharpe, director of music at York Minster, where he continues popular organ recitals.

He came to York in September 2008, having previously held posts at Truro Cathedral, Lichfield Cathedral, St Albans Abbey and Exeter College, Oxford.

His work centres around the daily choral tradition of York Minster and the famous minster organ.

In addition, he performs frequently as an organ soloist, having played in many parts of Europe and the US as well as major venues in the UK. He has made recordings with Truro Cathedral choir and York Minster choir, which have all received critical acclaim.

A large screen will be installed in St Peter's to ensures the audience is able to fully appreciate the skill and detail of his playing.

The programme is of popular music suitable for a summer concert and will display the many tones and effects available on the Osmotherley instrument. It is aimed not only at organ lovers, but music lovers in general. Tickets at the door cost £8, children and students free.

It starts at 7.30pm there will be an interval with refreshments and an opportunity to meet Robert Sharpe. Proceeds from the concert will go towards organ bursaries available through St Peter's for aspiring young musicians.
