SALTBURN '53 Drama Group is staging The Vicar of Dibley with performances continuing tonight and tomorrow in the resort.

Sally Lewis, a long-term member of the group, is cast as Geraldine Granger, the role played by Dawn French in the TV series.

Apart from attention to characterisation, she is a perfect look-alike for French and is recreating the same kind of vicar, one who displays kindly good humour and thoughtfulness together with occasional and understandable exasperation for her small, motley flock of parishioners.

The story starts with the new vicar arriving in the midst of a stunned parish council and follows her dealings with different parishioners, ending with the marriage of Hugo and Alice.

Regular theatre-goers will have seen Sally Lewis in many roles over the years, from Mrs Corney in Oliver! to Maria in Twelfth Night, the Wicked Witch of the East in Wizard of Oz to Mrs Jones in Blood Brothers.

Royalties from the show are donated to Comic Relief at the request of the authors. Performances at Saltburn Community Theatre start at 7.30pm (doors and bar 6.45pm). Tickets cost £7 and £5 for concessions from the box office, The Book Corner, Station Square, and online at saltburnarts.co.uk.
