FOLLOWING a sell-out run at the Royal Opera House, BalletBoyz brings more explosive choreography to Darlington Civic Theatre in a double bill by theTalent next week.

The Murmuring, choreographed by Alexander Whitley, and Mesmerics, reworked and recreated by Christopher Wheeldon, premiered at the Royal Opera House last year to capacity audiences and the show is touring for the first time. The Civic Theatre performance is on Tuesday, May 26.

Subject and title of The Murmuring relates to low, distinctive and continuous sound and to murmurings, the extraordinary undulating flight pattern of flocks of birds, particularly starlings. It is set to music by the London-based electronic duo Raime.

Whitley uses precise group movements to contrast with twisting, weighted solos by ten dancers in a seamless ebb and flow of beautiful movement.

Mesmerics, choreographed by Michael Nunn and William Trevitt, co-founders and artistic directors of BalletBoyz, with Christopher Wheeldon in 2004, was originally created for three men and two women. It is now performed by eight of the all-male company.

Said Michael Nunn: “The music is a gorgeous score by Philip Glass featuring haunting, hypnotic string sections. We knew it wouldn’t work in the old format because there’s a lot of pointe work and traditional partnering, so Chris reinvented it and we’ve worked with him in tiny moments through his busy schedule.”

Tickets are £21, £19 and £11 for under-16s from the box office on 01325 486555 or visit darlingtoncivic.co.uk.
