THE Darlington Orchestra's annual winter concert takes place on Saturday, January 24, at 7.30pm in the Dolphin Centre.

The community orchestra chooses new pieces for every concert so each has a different atmosphere. The programme this time spans three centuries and includes special guest performers Brass Beneath.

Conductor David Plews said: "We’ll play the best classic choices with a mix of pieces you may not have heard before. There'll be the clear and fresh sounds of Copland, the modernism of Faure and the incomparable film music of the great John Williams.

“Add to this the barn-storming scores from Andrew Lloyd Webber's Evita, Ivor Novello's Dancing Years and the 18th-century regality of Hertel's short symphony and you have a warm, engaging and relaxing winter evening to remember."

The orchestra welcomes people from all backgrounds and ages. This season saw several teenagers joining which bodes well for the future of the group and extends the age range of players from 14 to 60-plus.

Tickets cost £7, £5 concessions, and are available from the box office on 01325 388406 or at the door. For information, email darlingtonorchestra@hotmail.com, visit darlington-orchestra.org.uk or follow the group on Twitter @DarloOrchestra or facebook/Darlington-Orchestra.
