DANNY Driver returns to play for Darlington Piano Society on Sunday afternoon. Since his first performance for the society in November 2010 he has built an international career as soloist, recitalist and chamber musician.

He is known internationally for the exceptional quality of his performances and recordings, imagination and breadth of his repertoire and for the individuality of his interpretations of core works and neglected masterpieces.

He performed William Walton's Sinfonia Concertante under Charles Dutoit at last year’s BBC Proms and has won consistent international acclaim for his recordings on the Hyperion label, together with high praise for his recordings of CPE Bach Keyboard Sonatas and Handel’s Keyboard Sites, one of which he includes in his 3pm concert at the Central Hall in the Dolphin Centre.

His recording of Scottish composer Erik Chisholm’s Piano Concertos in 2012 was selected by BBC Music Magazine as Orchestral Disc of the Month. An album of Robert Schumann's Novelletten Op 81 & Nachtstücke Op 23 followed last November and a further instalment in Hyperion's Romantic Piano Concerto Series is due out this year.

The programme is the same as the one he gave at Wigmore Hall, London, in October: Handel, Suite no 5 in E major, C P E Bach, Fantasie in F sharp minor, Beethoven, Sonata no 28 in A major Op 101, Thomas Adès, Three Mazurkas and Schumann, Fantasy in C major Op 17.
