THERE was sell-out for Guisborough Choral Society’s production, Midsummer Melodies, held appropriately on the longest day.

The audience heard choral arrangements of Irish melodies, English folk songs, American spirituals and tributes to Cole Porter and the Swing era, conducted by Angela Bennett accompanied by Margaret Heaton on piano.

An addition this year was the appearance of 17-year-old young flautist, Millie Stonehouse, who has already made her mark nationally by gaining a place in the National Youth Wind Orchestra.

Closing the performance, the society’s chairman, Colin Vaux, said, “We would welcome anybody new as we’re starting to prepare for Schumann’s Requiem. Thanks to all who helped and came along in what has been a varied and worthwhile programme.”
