LE Tour is the theme of a gala concert at Ripon Cathedral on Saturday, April 26, when the St Cecilia Orchestra, will perform Yorkshire and French music under conductor Xenophon Kelsey.
The programme will start with works by Yorkshire composer Frederick Delius – La Calinda and Walk to the Paradise Garden. Yorkshire cellist Jessica Burroughs then performs the expressive cello concerto by the French composer Saint-Saens.
The second half is the Symphonie Fantastique by Hector Berlioz. Using a large orchestra complete with extra harps and tubas, Berlioz paints a dream-like picture of life and love in 19 century Paris. Scenes depicted include a swirling waltz at a fashionable ball and a climactic march to the guillotine.
Tickets are available from The Little Ripon Bookshop, Alan’s Gallery, the cathedral shop and from Pomp and Circumstance in Harrogate or phone 01765-677413 (£16, £14 concessions, children free). Visit st-cecilia.org.uk for more information.
