MARKENFIELD Hall, near Ripon, hosts a spring concert by the recently formed Dales String Quartet on Saturday, April 12.

The quartet is a local ensemble, all of whom trained with internationally renowned artists.

Their programme consists of one of Mozart’s Prussian Quartets (in Bb major), a short late romantic movement by Webern and the great C major Quintet by Schubert.

Richard and Chloe Fletcher, leaders of Ripon’s St Cecilia Orchestra, studied violin at the Royal Northern College of Music and the Guildhall School of Music respectively. Hilary Sowden (viola) has played with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra.

Laurence Hughes (cello) studied with Hannah Roberts, professor at the RNCM, Manchester.

Francesca Blum, principal cello in the Covent Garden Chamber Orchestra, will guest in the Schubert piece.

The concert, which will support the ongoing restoration of this beautiful medieval house, starts with drinks from 7pm. Places are limited; book tickets, £20, on 01765-692303.
