SALTBURN’S Brass Neck Comedy Club will bring Mark Steel – Have I Got News For You and QI regular – to Saltburn Community Theatre on Thursday, May 22, with a show based on his Radio 4 series Mark Steel’s In Town.

Alun Cochrane, from Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow, plays at the monthly comedy club at Spa Hotel on April 5.

Last month, Alan Carr wowed audiences after choosing the resort for two gigs at the 145-capacity Community Theatre. In November, there was a similar work-in-progress gig by TV comedian Jon Richardson.

Speaking after the Alan Carr gigs, Carmel Ramsay, of Brass Neck Comedy, said: “Someone asked why he chose to play here and he said comics speak to each other about the best places to try out new ideas – and that all the comics he’d asked had said ‘you’ve got to play Saltburn’.”

Call the Spa Hotel on 01287- 622544. Tickets for Mark Steel cost £15 from Saltburn Health Foods or seetickets.com.

  • Big Mouth Comedy Club, which has operated at Middlesbrough Town Hall for five years, is branching out to Redcar’s Coatham Memorial Hall and Guisborough Quoit Club. The venues will share a double headlining mix of familiar TV faces and comics on the UK circuit on the first Friday of the month from April 4.

Other comics set to appear have supported big hitters including Johnny Vegas, Ricky Gervais, Rhod Gilbert and Milton Jones along the way – and local talent has a chance to shine too, with hotly-tipped Boro comic Natalie Wicks playing at Guisborough in June.
