GUISBOROUGH Choral Society will ring the changes at its spring concert on Saturday, April 28.

After the success of December's performance of Handel’s Messiah, the singers will perform shorter choral works ranging from the 17th to 21st centuries, with English composer William Byrd rubbing shoulders with the celebrated choral composer of the internet generation, Eric Whitacre.

In between are 18th century works by Haydn and Mozart, 19th century classics from Mascagni (Easter Hymn from Cavalleria Rusticana), and Fauré and Bruckner (including Locus iste).

Elgar, Vaughan Williams and Rachmaninoff (selections from the Vespers) represent the 20th century.

Norwegian Ola Gjeilo (with Northern Lights) and American Eric Whitacre are two of the finest choral composers today and the latter’s phenomenal Sleep has been chosen for the finale.

The programme is rounded out with solo numbers by guest singer Ben Noble and pieces by violin duet Clare Gale and Dan Hands.

The starts at 7.30pm in the Methodist Church, Westgate, Guisborough. Tickets are £10, £8 concessions, £1 under-19s, available at Guisborough Bookshop, Chaloner Street, Guisborough, wegottickets.com or at the door.
