WORK by a wildlife artist who paints with a pheasant feather goes on show in Wensleydale next week.

Clare Brownlow’s paintings will be on view in the Garden Rooms at Tennants in Leyburn in a selling exhibition which opens on Tuesday, May 30.

The Scottish artist was shortlisted in 2014 for Wildlife Artist of the Year and has worked closely with and donated paintings to a number of charities including Tusk Trust, Born Free Foundation and GWCT.

She recently featured on BBC Countryfile, demonstrating her unusual technique and talking about the inspiration around her home in the Borders where she lives with her husband Charlie and their two small boys.

She began drawing and painting once she was old enough to hold a pencil and brush, and studied art after leaving school. It was after the birth of her first son in 2009, in a quiet moment in her parent’s kitchen table in Norfolk, that pheasant feather art was born.

Picking up a pheasant feather from her father’s stash, she dipped it in his fountain pen inks and started doodling.

On June 4 there will be a meet the artist day when visitors can watch her demonstrated her painting method at noon and 2pm when she will be available to talk about her work. There will also be a chance for all ages to have-a-go with feather and paint to create their own inspired picture. Children under 12 can enter their feathery masterpieces into a prize competition.
