PHOTOGRAPHS by Phil Cornelius capturing the atmosphere of the North York Moors and Yorkshire coast are on show at the Inspired by… gallery at Danby along with landscape quilts by Cleveland Fibre Arts textile group.

The exhibition Lingering Presence, also features work by pastel artist Keith Blessed and candle-maker Chris Jones.

Mr Cornelius, who is also exhibiting poems, said: "I live on the edge of the North York Moors and though I have been fortunate enough to stand on all seven continents I still regard my local work as the most important.

"The light and drama of this area never ceases to amaze me. Walking alone at dawn or dusk, there is an overwhelming sense of history that I find totally fascinating.”

Keith Blessed retired from the pharmaceutical industry in 2001 when he moved to Whitby. He is inspired by the sea and the coast and moors, in particular dramatic sunrises, sunsets and stormy skies.

Chris Jones, who works at Hutton-le-Hole, feels his candles come to life when lit, becoming a piece of living art.

The textile group of about 30 women meets monthly to share knowledge and skills and keep alive traditional rural crafts. Their exhibition focuses on quilts reflecting changing light, colours and textures of the landscape and are on show until November 11. The Lingering Presence exhibition ends on November 9.

The gallery in the Moors National Park Centre, Danby, is open daily from 10.30am-4pm in November.
