DARLINGTON MOWDEN PARK signed off for the season at The Northern Echo Arena in style as they cruised to a 40-7 win over Fylde.

The win, in the club’s final home game of the campaign, cemented Mowden’s position in second spot in the National One table, and means the club will finish the season with 14 wins from their 15 home matches this term. Their only defeat on home soil came against runaway league winners Coventry.

Mowden scored six tries on Saturday, with both sides showing plenty of attacking intent in front of a healthy crowd at the Arena.

Despite a string of early chances, Mowden were unable to make a breakthrough in the opening 20 minutes.

However, they got on the scoreboard shortly after, with Warren Seals scything through the visitors’ defence to dot down the opening try.

The South African converted his own try, and Mowden doubled their lead just two minutes later as Talite Vaioleti finished off an attack that started in his side’s own 22. Seals converted once more to make the score 14-0 at the break.

Mowden started the second half on the front foot and extended their lead soon after. After Maia Gibbs was held up, Vaioleti powered over from the resulting scrum for his second score of the afternoon.

The hosts continued to pile pressure on the Fylde defence in search of the four-try bonus point, and it arrived as Joe Craggs burrowed over for his fourth try of the season.

Seals converted once more, and Mowden’s lead was extended further minutes later as Ben Frankland stepped past two Fylde defenders to score.

The visitors finally got on the scoreboard as Connor Wilkinson crossed the try line, but Mowden has the final say as Canadian Matt Heaton powered over two defenders to score his first try of the season.
