TWO players who might have a future with Newcastle Falcons showed their class for Mowden on Saturday.

Powerful flanker Simon Uzokwe was named man of the match, while elusive winger Adam Radwan boosted his recent tally with a hat-trick.

They enjoyed the freedom afforded by Macclesfield as National One's bottom club repeatedly coughed up the ball, allowing Mowden to counter from long range.

Radwan, who came up through Middlesbrough's junior ranks before joining Billingham, has increasingly looked the part since coming under the Falcons' wing and switching to Mowden in mid-season.

He swept past two defenders for the first try after 23 minutes, then centre James Fitzpatrick scored as Mowden eased 15-0 ahead.

In only one of their previous nine games had the margin been more than seven points, so this was a welcome stroll for the players. But for fans used to dramatic climaxes the game lacked a competitive edge.

Against any other opponents Mowden could have paid heavily for conceding a stream of penalties either side of half-time.

Macclesfield dominated in this period, scoring from a catch-and-drive to reduce the interval deficit to 15-5, only to shoot themselves in the foot on the resumption.

Although they had a territorial advantage in the first seven minutes of the second half they contrived to fall 14 further behind.

They lost the ball in the Mowden 22 and a break out put Radwan in space with 30 metres to go. He stepped inside the last defender to go under the posts.

Macclesfield gathered the restart and to their credit on the heavy pitch they again tried to move the ball wide. But an ambitious pass was intercepted and two passes later Uzokwe stepped out of a tackle on halfway, shrugged off another and accelerated to the posts.

Mowden continued to fall foul of referee Hamish Smales, the ex-Tynedale player, in the scrum and the loss of hooker James Penman added to their front row casualties.

Macclesfield kicked another penalty to the corner and got over for their second try, only to hand Mowden their fifth when a loose pass allowed Ben Frankland to hack on from 45 metres.

After taking a knock Radwan was off for 20 minutes, but on his return he was given a clear run in after Uzokwe made the initial thrust.

Replacement lock Josh Williams chared under the posts for the seventh try, his first for the club.
