FORMER Scotland B player Garry Law has signed to stay at Darlington Mowden Park for a further two years.

In his second season with the club, the fly half or centre broke an ankle last month when he was high up the National One scorers list with 145 points.

He will not play again this season, but is happy to stay, saying: “It was an easy decision to make. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with Mowden, both playing and helping the coaches.

“The club is making massive strides on and off the pitch. I can only see it getting bigger and it's something I want to be part of.”

Mowden are glad of a rest today as they try to get injured players such as skipper Gareth Nesbit fit for next week's trip to Hull Ionians.

Blaydon have a rearranged match at home to Loughborough and a third successive win would take them well clear of trouble.

They tend to struggle against the pace of the Students, losing the away match 35-7, but will hope to dominate up front with dual-registered Newcastle hooker David Nelson back to bolster a strong front row.

Blaydon will be without skipper Keith Laughlin, who captained the England Counties XV against French Federale at Blackheath last night.

His place in the back row goes to Jack Davison, who joined from Percy Park at the start of last season but has been injured for most of that time.

Centre Tom Penny is required by the Falcons, so Tom Grimes returns with Zach Kibirige and Frazer Wilson again on the wings.

It is hoped to find some game time for highly-rated Yarm School product Ben Stevenson, who showed his pace when scoring with his first touch two weeks ago.

Toby Bain, who began the season at centre for Blaydon but was injured in the second match, has signed for Durham City, who stage a National Intermediate Cup fourth round tie against St Benedicts.

The Whitehaven club lie second to Aspatria in the North Lancs and Cumbria League and cannot be taken lightly.

As they are only two wins from Twickenham, City believe this is their biggest game at Hollow Drift since beating Sale in the national cup in 1989. They lost 33-3 in the next round to a Wasps team which included six internationals, Rob Andrew among them.

Centres Bradley Pears and Craig Dominic return after missing last week's win at Consett, but No 8 Peter Dent is unavailable.

Tynedale face a tough task to arrest their slide in National Two North when they visit Chester, while Billingham have a day off in Three North but will keep a close eye on the fortunes of their Under 18s in a national cup quarter-final away to Syston in Leicestershire.

Middlesbrough can draw level with Durham City at the top of Durham and Northumberland On with a bons point win at Novos, although they will have played a game more.

Joe Gaudie is named at full back with Jack Bircham switching to inside centre in place of Michael Thornburn. Jay Ellis comes in at scrum half with Sam Gaudie moving to No 10.
