DARLINGTON Mowden have lost their captain of the last two seasons, centre Cameron Mitchell, who has landed a job in London.

After graduating from Northumbria University, he is joining another Yarm School product, flanker Will McCauley, in moving south. Both will play for other National One clubs.

Mitchell, who has joined Richmond, said: “I have had a brilliant four years with Mowden and loved every minute.

“It's a fantastic club and I feel very lucky to have had the opportunity to play for them. My decision to leave is purely work-related and I hope to be back one day.”

In his first season as captain Mitchell led Mowden to promotion and went on to represent the England Counties XV.

Last season they finished in mid-table in National One and head coach John Newton said: “Cameron's part in helping the club to their highest league placing should not go unrecognised.

“We first saw him in sevens action and knew instantly we had to get him involved. A lot of players looked to him for a spark and he always obliged.”

McCauley went on to coach rugby at Yarm School, which meant he was not always available to Mowden and he also suffered a bad injury last season. He is to play for Esher.

Former Scotland B international Garry Law will also assist with the coaching after signing for a second season.

The club want the ex Border Reivers professional to help with their attacking patterns.

Props Gareth Nesbit and Ralph Appleby have also re-signed and the club expect to announce some new signings in the next few days.
