MOWDEN Park have today announced the ambitious signing of Garry Law from top 4 Championship side Rotherham Titians on a two-year contract.
Law’s capture is seen as the biggest signing in the Darlington club’s history.
With more than 30 Heineken cup appearances Law, 29, arrives at The Northern Echo Arena with a wealth of experience and a number of honours attached to his name including Scotland A and the Barbarians. After seasons at the Border Reivers, Viadana and Lazio, Garry Joined Rotherham Titans where he has established himself as a 1st XV regular and going on to captain the side for the last two seasons.
Coach John Newton said: “Garry is a fantastic signing for the club. He is a quality player with a wealth of experience. We have developed a young and exciting backline over recent years. Garry will not only provide an experienced head but an opportunity for our younger members to learn and develop their game alongside a player who has played at the highest level.
“The combination of in-form players and new signings means we’ll have some real competition in the backline.”
As the club prepares for its National 1 Campaign, Law joins a growing number of internationals at the Arena with Tailiti Vaioletti entering the second year of his contract and Cameron Mitchell, Jack Allcock, Guy van den Dries and Tom Larder all extending their stay at Mowden Park.
Law said: “It is a club with real potential, it not only has incredible facilities but has the ambition to keep developing with the aim of becoming a competitive set up both nationally and in the North-East. To be approached at the early stage of the club’s development is a great opportunity and is an exciting time for me.
“With moving to Mowden I am entering new stage in my career, I am still enjoying my rugby and my priority is to be fit week in week out for the Club. However, I have been fortunate enough to play at some great clubs and with a young squad at Mowden it will be great if I’m able to make a difference in the development of their game and pass down some of my knowledge and experiences.”
