Ripon Motor Club, Acklams Championship trial, Grewelthorpe, Saturday

THREE days after laying his father Stephen to rest Joe Bradley rode his late father's new Montesa trials machine to victory in the Ripon Motor Club's second club championship trial.

The machine had one previous outing, on April 16, at Fellbeck in the hands of its owner. Not only were Stephen's family present and watching the trial but brother Ian was competing and grandson Finn Lawson-Bradley was contesting the youngest class on his Beta machine.

Three generations of the Bradleys in action. In terms of results Joe won the novice category while Ian posted a tenth in the over fifty class while Finn was placed seventh in the electric class.

The trial attracted a massive one hundred and twenty five competitors from the ages of four to seventy four years.

Judith Blythe and Heather Langstaff managed to process entry forms, sign on sixteen observes and then work until midnight compiling result scores.

The twenty two small wheel and electric class contenders were assembled to ride a compact five section course adjacent to the fish pond, and a few grazing livestock.

Jack Vasey won the hard route for the youngsters while Rory Wilkinson just departed in the middle route division.

On the easy course Ashley Watson was under pressure from Maddy Watson but eleven penalties in the penultimate section blunted Maddy's attack. covered angled rocks.

Joe Bradley soon showed he could handle Montesa power while top youth Ryan Brown and Guy Stones were line perfect.

Top Over forties Robert Weatherill avoided the woodwork to post faultless climbs.

Ripon will run again on June 10 at Bewereley and on June 24 at West Hill Edge, Galphay Moor. Start time is 3.00pm and 5.00pm.

Scarborough & D.M.C. 2nd Club Trial, Low North Park, Harwood Dale, Sunday

A GLORIOUS day for Scarborough clubs second round club trial on Sunday at Low North Park where ninety riders competed on a four lap ten section course plotted by Sam Fairbanks.

They did not tackle any of the major sections but there was enough there to take marks. Only Paul Nelson and Colin Bailey finishing joint winners of Clubman Class B.

Returning to trialling, and beginning to find his form, Steve Hind produced a splendid ride to win the Intermediate class from the ever improving Danny Gamble. Clubman A winner Mike Noble, almost lost out to an in form Louise Alford who had a fantastic ride.

Alford kept the pressure on every inch of the way and again it was the awkward third hazard that just stole two marks off the Lincolnshire teenager as Noble cleaned to leave her in runner up berth in front of the experienced Alan Carr, Ben Myers and Matt Sharp who were just a few marks adrift.
